The Mercury Amalgam Scam: How Anti-Amalgamists Swindle People
Stephen Barrett, M.D.

Expert Opinion From Dr. David Nye. Fm Specialist. The average person gets far more mercury in his or her diet than through fillings.  The WHO-recommended daily dietary mercury limit used to be 30 micrograms per day.  The EPA reduced it recently to 6 because of concerns about mercury toxicity to pregnant women.  The main dietary source of mercury is fish.   About half of the mercury in fish comes from natural sources, mainly volcanos, washed out of the air by rain.  The other half comes from pollution such as power plants and cigarette smoking.

Mercury is present in all fish, more in large predatory fish like swordfish
and tuna which can contain up to 1.5 mg/kg of mercury.  Eating fish once a
week will give you more mercury, and in the more toxic methyl mercury form,
than you could ever absorb from fillings.  If we were absorbing a fraction
of that amount of mercury out of our fillings, they would start to dissolve
and fall out within a few years, saving us from having to go to some
unscrupulous dentist to have them removed.
